Former Lab Technician Continues to Challenge Herself

Florencia Label is originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. At the age of 18, she started working for the Mexican Institute of Social Security, as a Lab Technician. Florencia, worked for the Social Security Institute for 27 years and retired at the age of 46. Her job taught her many valuable skills, and helped her support her two children. After Florencia retired, she continued to enjoy her passion for traveling, cooking and playing tennis. Tennis is a hobby that she loves profoundly because ever since she can remember, her mother was always present at her matches and supported her passion for the game. It was a hobby that one way or another would always be a common denominator in her life.

Florencia loves to learn and set new challenges for herself. While in school in Mexico, she took many culinary courses, including a course at the Culinary Institute of America in New York where she had the opportunity to learn to make many pastries including an upside-down apple tart (Tarte-Tatin) from Chef Gerard Dupond. Little did she know that years later her love for travel and tennis would change her life. A trip to Puerto Vallarta for a tennis match gave her the opportunity to meet Wayne, her future husband. They got married a few years later in Solana Beach and have lived in the community ever since.

One year ago, she started the process to become a naturalized citizen. She attended the NCICC's weekly civics class every Wednesday from 5:30pm-7:00pm. She is very thankful to her teachers, husband, and NCICC staff for helping her apply with USCIS and helping her prepare for her interview. She took her citizenship oath earlier this month, and is now a proud American citizen. She is thankful for being part of a country that offers so many opportunities and makes every dream become a reality. Florencia and Wayne will continue to travel, play tennis and enjoy their three grandchildren.

Florencia Label es originaria de Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. A la edad de 18 años, ella comenzó a trabajar para el Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, como técnica de laboratorio.  Florencia, trabajó para el Instituto de Seguro Social durante 27 años y se retiró a la edad de 46.  Su trabajo le enseñó muchas habilidades valiosas y la ayudó a apoyar financieramente a sus dos hijos.   Después que Florencia se jubiló, continuó disfrutando de su pasión por viajar, cocinar y jugar tenis. Tenis es un hobby que ama profundamente porque desde que puede recordar, su madre siempre estuvo presente en sus partidos y apoyó su pasión por el juego. Un pasatiempo que de una manera u otra siempre  sería  un denominador común en su vida.  A Florencia, le encanta aprender y plantearse nuevas metas a lo largo de su vida. Mientras estaba en la escuela en México, tomó muchos cursos culinarios y tomó un curso en el Instituto Culinario de América en Nueva York, donde tuvo la oportunidad de aprender a hacer muchos  pasteles, incluso un pastel de manzana al revés  (Tarte-Tatin) con el Chef, Gerard Dupond. Poco se imagino  que años después su amor por los viajes y el tenis le cambiaría su vida. Un viaje a Puerto Vallarta y un partido de tenis le dieron la oportunidad de conocer a Wayne, su futuro esposo. Se casaron unos años más tarde en Solana Beach y han vivido en la comunidad desde entonces. Como muchas de sus metas en la vida, Florencia sabía que tenía un nuevo desafío por delante. Hace un año comenzó el proceso para convertirse en una ciudadana naturalizada.  Florencia asistió a la clase de educación cívica que NCICC ofrece todos los miércoles de 5:30pm-7:00pm. Ella está muy agradecida con sus maestros, su esposo y el personal de NCICC por ayudarla a presentar la solicitud con USCIS y ayudarla a prepararse para su entrevista. Ella tomó su juramento de ciudadanía a principios de este mes, y ahora es una  orgullosa ciudadana Estadounidense.  Ella está agradecida por ser parte de un país que ofrece tantas oportunidades y hace que cada sueño se convierta en realidad. Florencia y Wayne continuarán viajando, jugando tenis y disfrutando de sus tres nietos.
