Meet Marti!
Marti first learned of NCICC through her chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, an organization that, among other things, is a proponent of immigration services. As a former 8th grade history teacher, Marti was a natural fit for tutoring the civics curriculum at NCICC. Her knowledge combined with her passion for helping others learn have made lasting impressions on those who get the opportunity to work with her. On one occasion, one of her students brought in a flower for her and told her how much she meant to them. Heartwarming moments like these remind Marti of the important role she plays in the lives of her students.
A dedicated volunteer for over a year now, Marti tutors students who are taking their citizenship exam in English and helps to teach the ESL class on Thursday night. Her favorite thing about tutoring is seeing her students’ progress, and knowing that she’s making a difference.
"It's so rewarding to see these people coming back again,” says Marti. “It's inspiring to see people who want something so much and are willing to work so hard for it."
To Marti, NCICC is about loving people and helping them to achieve the goal of becoming American citizens.

¡Conozcan a Martí! Martí es una de nuestras tutoras aquí en NCICC y estamos muy agradecidos de tenerla. Por más de un año ha enseñado a estudiantes que se están preparando para su examen de ciudadanía en inglés, así como enseñó ESL los martes por la noche. Martí enseñó historia en el octavo grado y le encanta ayudar a otros a aprender. Ella decidió involucrarse en NCICC cuando escuchó de NCICC a través de la organización de las Hijas de la Revolución Americana (DAR), promueven la preservación histórica, educación y el patriotismo. Lo que le encanta a Marti sobre la tutoría de NCICC es ver a sus estudiantes Progresar. Además, aprecia saber que hay una manera práctica de ayudar a las personas en el proceso hacia la ciudadanía. Martí se llena de alegría cuando ve lo duro que trabajan sus alumnos para mejorar y alcanzar sus metas de aprendizaje y ciudadanía. En sus propias palabras, "es muy gratificante ver a estas personas regresar de nuevo. Siguen volviendo, siguen tratando. Es conmovedor ver eso. Es inspirador ver personas que quieren tanto algo y están dispuestos a trabajar duro por ello ". Martí también se siente feliz cuando los estudiantes expresan su agradecimiento a ella. Una vez en particular, un estudiante le regaló una flor y le dijo que la amaba. Momentos como este le recuerdan a Marti que tiene un papel importante que desempeñar en la vida de sus alumnos. Para Martí, NCICC se trata de amar a las personas y ayudarlas a lograr el objetivo de convertirse en ciudadanos estadounidenses. ¡Gracias, Marti!
