Effie began tutoring at NCICC three years ago as a way to participate in her community and be an engaged citizen.
She believes that the hardest aspect of the citizenship process for her students is the determination and commitment students need in order to make themselves come to class every week, and then to study at home, especially because many students live far away and work late. Seeing their dedication and hearing their stories is very inspiring for Effie. Although it is hard, they find a way and come to class every week because they want to better their lives. They want to make a difference in their society. All their efforts make Effie very happy and emotional.
A source of great joy for Effie is observing how her students all go into their interview appointments very nervous, but when they pass, they come back with a tremendous sense of pride. They enter a new stage in their lives because they made a decision to better themselves. This is one of many things that motivates Effie when she helps her students prepare for the USCIS interview. She knows that once they become citizens they will have new opportunities to make a difference and to shape their own future. Effie is an amazing woman, and she gives so much without expecting anything in return. The staff and students are very fortunate to have Effie be a part of the NCICC family!

Effie ha sido tutora en la clase de ciudadanía ofrecida por el Centro de Inmigración y Ciudadanía del Norte del Condado durante los últimos tres años. Comenzó la tutoría porque le gusta participar en su comunidad y porque sabe lo importante que es ser un ciudadano. Todos tienen una historia, una historia muy personal y su razón por la que quieren convertirse en ciudadanos. Effie ve que la parte más difícil del proceso de ciudadanía para sus estudiantes es la determinación y el compromiso que los estudiantes se hacen de venir a clase todas las semanas y luego de estudiar en casa. Su dedicación de encontrar una manera de venir a clase es algo que ella admira de ellos. Muchos estudiantes viven lejos, algunos trabajan tarde y es difícil para ellos hacer un plan y comprometerse con él. Aunque es difícil, encuentran una manera y vienen a clase cada semana porque quieren mejorar sus vidas y quieren hacer una diferencia en su sociedad. Toda su dedicación y esfuerzo hacen que Effie se ponga muy feliz y emocional. Ella dijo que todos los estudiantes van a la cita de la entrevista muy nerviosos, pero cuando pasan su entrevista de USCIS vuelven con un gran sentido de orgullo. Entran a una nueva etapa en su vida y todo porque tomaron la decisión de mejorar a sí mismos. Ella recibe una gran satisfacción al ayudar a sus estudiantes a prepararse para la entrevista de USCIS y presenciar su éxito. Ella sabe que una vez que se conviertan en ciudadanos, tendrán nuevas oportunidades para marcar la diferencia y dar forma a su futuro. Effie es una mujer increíble, da tanto sin esperar nada a cambio. ¡El personal y los estudiantes son muy afortunados de tener a Effie como parte de la familia NCICC!
